RedHawks Add Scoring Guard to Strong Recruiting Class
Brianne Wischman of Portage High School has agreed to continue her education and basketball career at IU Northwest beginning in the Fall 2010. Her decision was announced at a signing at Portage High School on Thursday afternoon, April 1. The 5'4" shooting guard from Portage averaged 11.8 points per game, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists this past season and helped lead the class 4A Indians to a 12-10 overall record.
Additionally, Wischman ranked in the top five in the area in 3-poiint field goals (43) and shot 72.5% from the line. She scored a career-high 27 points including six, 3-point field goals and handed out four assists vs Michigan City on Jan. 26, 2010.
Entering her senior season, Wischman was one of the top-returning scorers in the northwest Indiana after averaging 13.8 point per game as a junior for Portage. For her career, Bri ranks ninth all-time on the Portage Girls scoring list with 677 points.
"We needed to strengthen our perimeter scoring and defense heading into next season, Bri is exactly the type player we were looking for. She's proven that she is a consistent scorer and defender at both guard positions. Bri is a "gym-rat" and the type of player you have to tell to go home or she'll be there all night. She's a competitor, and an outstanding student. Our university has gained tremendously both academically and athletically with her decision to attend IU Northwest, she'll definitely make an impact here." said Coach Ryan Shelton.
Wischman is the fourth player to sign with the RedHawks for 2010 joining forward Kelly Dobson (Boone Grove) and guards Annmarie Keller (Kouts) and Kara Cunningham (Hebron) as Coach Shelton looks to strengthen the RedHawks' perimeter attack in 2010. Bri joins a RedHawk squad that won a school-record 24 games, claimed the Association of Independent Institutions' Tournament title, made its first-ever NAIA Tournament appearance, and returns 12 letter-winners and five starters next season.
Wischman will study elementary education at IU Northwest and wear #10 for the RedHawks next season.
