
Former Kankakee Valley standout Marissa Butler has committed to Indiana University Northwest Women's Basketball for the 2010-11 academic year and basketball season. Butler starred in both soccer and basketball while at KV earning Times All-Area and All-Northwest Crossroads Conference honors in both sports. As a senior the 5'11 Forward averaged 10.5 pts, 5.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.5 steals, 1.3 blocks and shot 30% from 3-point range for the 13-9 Kougars. She scored a career high 28 points on Jan. 12 in a win over Hebron. She also poured in 21 points and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a close 51-49 loss to No. 4 ranked Boone Grove.
"Marissa's commitment completes our 2010 recruiting class, her versatility and athleticism are rare in today's college basketball, we expect her to make a tremendous impact." said RedHawks Head Coach Ryan Shelton. "IU Northwest has experienced a tremendous gain with Marissa's commitment. She is a tremendous athlete and a winner. Her athleticism and intelligence on the court as well her high academic commitment makes her an ideal student-athlete to build the success of our program on. She will fit in well with our recruiting class and returning players ," added Shelton. The recruiting class that Shelton is speaking of already includes PCC stars Annmarie Keller (Kouts) and Kelly Dobson (Boone Grove) as well as Portage standout Bri Wischman and versatile Hebron guard Kara Cunningham. "The strength of this recruiting class is on par with our 2008 class, it's going to be great to see our talented newcomers mesh with theexperience" said Shelton.
