The IU Northwest volleyball team's first time competing in the AII (Association of Independent Institutions) tournament ends early after two consecutive losses.
The RedHawks dropped the first game to Walla Walla College by a match score of 3-1. After the loss, they were moved to the Loser Bracket to square off against Southwestern College. They were swept in 3 matches.

Coach Omar Vazquez knew the tournament was going to be tough, so he's content, if slightly disappointed, with the results.
"Our kids fought well [but] we're facing top of the line teams that put a lot of money into their programs," he said. "We've come a long way. To be a commuter college and to play at a [tournament] like this is impressive."

He was especially impressed with the performance of freshman Tiffany Robertson, OH. He felt that she carried the team throughout the tournament.

There was hope that, with three victories over NCAA DIII teams this year, the RedHawks be able to stay competitive. Unfortunately, inexperience got the best of them.
As Athletic Director Charles Gary, Ph.D. said, "The adjustment to college athletics can be both difficult and intimidating for any athlete. So, the challenges faced by our volleyball team this year are somewhat expected."
