RedHawks Cruise to 7th Straight Win
Over the past four weeks Indiana Northwest Women's Basketball has been nearly impossible too beat, now having won nine of their last last eleven contests, including seven straight. Mount Mary (NCAA III) was the latest team in the RedHawks path as IUN crusied past the Blue Angels 80-38 to even their season record at 10-10. The only two losses for IUN in their last eleven were to #15 Grace College by one point and at #22 Cornerstone by three in overtime.
"The adversity that we have faced and had to overcome has made us stonger as a group. It's going to be really tough for anyone to beat us the rest of the way. This is the team we magined it wold be when we were a Top-20 team to begin the season," said IUN Head Coach Ryan Shelton. The RedHawks jumped out to a 44-12 half time advantage over Mount Mary and never looked back. Senior forward Sharon Houston (18 min) and freshman swingman Paige Hickenbottom (12 min) shared game high honors with 16 points each in limited minutes. The Blue Angels had no answer for the athleticsm of both Houston and Hickenbottom as each swooped past the Mt. Mary defense for easy scoring opportunities.
Sophomore guard Annmarie Keller followed up her career high 24 points Tuesday night's win over IUSB with a solid 9 points on 4 of 7 shooting. Senior forward Ashley Michalski added 8 points and 5 blocks. Freshman guard Alyssa White filled up the stat box with 7 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. IUN used a sharp transition game and effective offense to shoot 50% as a team (32-64). "Other than our four seniors we have a very young team. Tonight was the first opportunity we have had to get our talented freshmen all on the floor at the same time. It was exciting to see them play so well together and catch a glimpse of the future of RedHawks Basketball," added Shelton.
The RedHawks return to action this Tuesday, Jan. 17 when they host the Grace Bible Tigers in the first game of a doubleheader with the women's game tipping at 5:30 p.m. The Lady RedHawks will shoot for their eighth straight win.
