Houston Leads IUN with 16 points, 11 Boards, 3 assists and 3 blocks
Indiana Northwest Women's Basketball closed their recent four game home stand with a decisive 80-35 victory over visiting Grace Bible (9-8). The RedHawks (11-10) used a stingy defense anchored by senior forward Sharon Houston's post presence to hold the tigers to just 12 first half points on 17% shooting from the floor as they went to the break with a 44-12 advantage. IUN was a perfect was a perfect 4-0 on the home stand and have won eight consecutive games overall. The victory was their eleventh on the season and ninth their last eleven contests.
Houston led the way with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in just 20 minutes, while freshman Paige Hickenbottom (12 points) and sophomore guard Brianne Wischman (10 points, 2-5 3pt) also reached double figures. Annmarie Keller (2-4 3pt), Juliette Keller and Ashley Parish all contributed in with 9 points each. Senior forward Ashley Michalski was perfect from the floor (3-3) for 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. The RedHawks held Grace Bible to just 26% shooting and forced 29 turnovers with 18 steals. IUN was sharp connecting on 54% of their field goals (35-65) and 40% (6-14) from beyond the arc on 20 assists. "Each game that we play has post-season implications for us and this was one of our best performances during this recent winning streak. We have a lot of people playing very well right now and the depth of this team is very apparent and helping us win games," said IUN Head Coach Ryan Shelton.
The RedHawks will put their eight game winning streak on the line when they travel to Clinton, IN this Saturday, Jan. 21 to take on St. Mary of the Woods for a 1pm CST tip.
