IUN Rolls with 6 Players in Double Figures
The Indiana Northwest women blew into the windy city on Thursday night for a matchup with the Moody Bible Institute Archers riding a current 10 game winning streak. When the dust settled, the RedHawks were off and running en route to a decisive 98-57 and their school record tying 11th straight win. The Indiana Northwest women haven't suffered a defeat since falling in overtime in the Championship Game of the Holiday 70-67 at host Cornerstone on Dec. 17. The RedHawk's pressure forced 25 Archer turnovers leading to transition opportunities and a balanced scoring attack with 6 players in double figures led by senior guard Juliette Keller's 15 points on 7-8 shooting from the floor. Also reaching double digits were Ashley Parish (14), Sharon Houston (13), Paige Hickenbottom (12), Kelly Gross (11) and Ashley Michalski (11). Parish served as a first half catalyst scoring 12 of her 14 points pacing the RedHawks to a 47-32 halftime advantage.
"Our team is extremely deep and talented at all five positions, we have the confidence to play our entire roster and expect results, Parish and Jet played great tonight," said IUN Head Coach Ryan Shelton. IUN shot 51% (41-80) from the floor, including a blistering 66% (23-35) in the second half, while racking up 17 assists against just 5 turnovers on the evening. The RedHawk stifling defense also tallied 17 steals with sophomore guards Annmarie Keller and Brianne Wischman combining for 17 points, 9 assists, 8 steals and 3 treys. With the victory Indiana Northwest improved to 14-10 on the season. The current 11-game streak matches the total by the 2009-10 RedHawk squad that went onto to win a school-record 24 games en route to capturing the 2010 A.I.I. Conference Championship and their first ever NAIA National Tournament Appearance. The win was also IUN's 13th victory in their last 15 outings.
"We have been fortunate to have some great teams here, however this is probably the best any of our teams has played for an extended period of time. Now at full health, the depth and chemistry is the strongest it's ever been since I've been here. They deserve all the credit," added Shelton. The RedHawks return to action on Wednesday, February 1 when they travel to NCAA Division I, Chicago State for a 7pm tip.
