The Lady RedHawks ended a busy three-game week dropping a hard tournament final at Judson University on November 21. The RedHawks led by seven at the break (33-26), however Judson caught fire in the second half from beyond the arc (6-10), leading to a 68-60 defeat and dropping the RedHawks to 3-2 on the season.
The Lady RedHawks Coach Ryan Shelton said, "We're disappointed [with the loss]. We felt that we were the more talented team […] but we didn't play well enough to win. We need to learn how to get tougher on offense."
The RedHawks started the game playing good defense and limiting the other team to weak outside shooting.
He said, "[Judson] eventually started knocking down shots. That's when we needed to answer either offensively or defensively or both." Unfortunately, they couldn't pull it off.
Sophomore, Sharon Houston led all scorers with 32 points, 17 rebounds and 2 blocks. Freshman center Ish Shah Terry chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds. Houston was named to the Judson, All-Tournament Team.
The previous day, in the tournament semi-final, IU Northwest survived a late-comeback attempt by Goshen to earn a 60-55 victory. Sharon Houston led the way notching her third career triple-double with 21 points, 16 rebounds and 12 blocks. Sophomore Jenelle Kapelinski also had a strong performance with 7 points and 8 rebounds.
Shelton said, "Houston played a great game offensively and defensively. Again we need to be more consistent on offense. It's a game that we felt like we were in control of, but we were making too many mistakes. We were far from playing our best basketball."
Earlier in the week the RedHawks were impressive in defeating local rival Calumet College at home 67-51. Sharon Houston's 28 points, 17 rebounds and 2 blocks paced the RedHawks.
