Coming off a big win against Judson, the RedHawks (10-6) were revved up for their match against Kuyper College. The RedHawks didn't appear to let down easily handling Kuyper College (Grand Rapids, MI) 80-31 Last week against Judson, the RedHawks showed weak perimeter defense by giving up an astounding 18 three-pointers. The defense was a bit stingier Kuyper, who were successful on just one three-point attempt. The RedHawks were able to locate and close out on shooters all night.
The RedHawks started off strong with 12-0 run and never looked back. They remained in a comfortable lead, and every RedHawk player got into the scoring column. Coach Ryan Shelton said, "[We] try to remind each player that every chance to play is another opportunity to establish yourself in our rotation. We always want to keep things repetitive."
Sharon Houston only played 17 minutes, but had a great game, leading the team with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Nina Wills scanned the field and passed very well throughout and ended the game with 7 points and 5 assists. Jenelle Kapelinski, at the forward position, proved herself an excellent passer with 6 assists. Ish Shah Terry, who's been on a roll lately, recorded her 2nd double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Finally, Amanda Pennington finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds, both career highs.
At home next Tuesday the Lady RedHawks will face off against Grace Bible College in the first game of a men's and women's doubleheader. The men's game is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm. Both games will be played at the IU Northwest Savannah Center.
