The Lady RedHawks set out to make history again in 2009-10. The RedHawks return 9 players and all 5 starters from the 2008-2009 squad that set school marks for victories in a season and consecutive victories (9) in route to their first national tournament appearance (2009 USCAA National Tournament) and post-season victory. The RedHawks were college basketball's most-improved team in 2008-2009.
2009 A.I.I. Conference Player of the Year and USCAA All-American, Sharon Houston will lead the RedHawks into the 2009-10 season. Last season, Houston ranked #1 nationally by the USCAA in scoring (24.7), rebounding (15.3) and blocks (5.7). She ranked 2nd, 1st and 2nd nationally in those same categories by the NAIA II. In addition, Houston was named USCAA National Player of the Week five times and twice NAIA National Player of the Week in back to back weeks. Sharon was joined on the A.I.I. All-Conference Team by returners Juliette Keller and Nina Wills. Keller was selected USCAA National Player of the Week after setting a school record for most 3-point field goals in a single game-7 and was earlier selected A.I.I. Conference Player of the Week. Wills also earned A.I.I. Player of the Week honors last season. The Lady RedHawks defeated Briarcliffe College (Long Island, NY) in the first round of the 2009 USCAA National Tournament to notch their first post-season win in school history. The RedHawks were ranked as high as No. 2 nationally by the USCAA and finished with a No. 8 national-ranking.
The RedHawks will lean on fellow returners Ashley Michalski (8.1 ppg 7.6 rpg), Jenelle Kapelinski, Erica Baran, Jessi Jenkins and Kym Daniels. The Lady RedHawks will be aided by a strong, freshmen recruiting class, featuring guards Megan Leal (Calumet H.S.) and Vicky Campos (Hammond Clark H.S.) as well as Forwards Ish-Sha Terry (Gary West Side H.S.), Justine Jones (Calumet H.S.) and Amanda Pennington (River Forest H.S.). 2009-10 Lady RedHawks will feature an exciting brand of basketball, don't miss an opportunity to again see "History in the Making."
