Seniors sent out in style as 24th win of season on Senior Day ties program record

Gary, IN – IU Northwest welcomed the Lakers of Silver Lake College for their final regular season game of the year. The RedHawks used a pressure defense and potent outside shooting to register a decisive 90-50 win on Senior Night.  The win for IU Northwest (24-5) was their 24th of the season matching a school record form the 2009-10 season.

The RedHawks forced numerous Silver Lake turnovers in the first half as IU Northwest turned those miscues into easy points and opened a 45-21 advantage going into the half. IU Northwest was able to dial it in from long range in third period exploding for a 28 point quarter that left little doubt on the outcome.

Senior, Nicki Monahan playing in her final home game at the Savannah Center led all scorers with a game high 25 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Grayce Roach added 13 points in just 20 minutes of action while Gina Rubino registered 12 points and Alexis Blake 9 points and 8 rebounds. IU Northwest connected on 10-20 from long range and tallied up 27 assists in the contest.

It was the final home game for seniors Nariman Jaber, Bernadette Grabowski and Nicki Monahan. Four-year players, Grabowski and Monahan have led IU Northwest to more wins (86) in a four-year span than any other class.

Coach's view:

"It is impossible to express in words how much Bernie (Grabowski) and Nicki (Monahan) have meant to our program and university. Standouts and truly exceptional people both on the court and off, hoping to have the opportunity to work with high-character people is the reason I wanted to be a coach. Their contributions are as immeasurable as much as they are irreplaceable as they have made a lasting impact on their teammates, coaches and university, they will be sorely missed" said IUN Head Coach Ryan Shelton.
