The IU Northwest men's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 88-75 win over visiting Silver Lake College, celebrating senior day Friday evening at the Roost (Savannah Center). Prior to the game, the three seniors on the men's basketball team, Dylan Ramirez, Justin Pennington and Darrius Davis were recognized for their contributions to the program.
The RedHawks started the game slow finding themselves down early. The RedHawks would find their rhythm midway through the first half by going on a 22-6 run to take a 10 point lead. The RedHawks (20-10) led by as many as 18 in the second half before a late game comeback by the Lakers would fall short. The RedHawks held on to their lead to earn its final win of the regular season before traveling to Point Lookout, Missouri to compete for the A.I.I. Championship. "Earning a bid to post season plus setting a regular season program record for most wins is quite an accomplishment for these young men" said Head Coach Javier Heridia. "We have had a roller coaster of a season so far but if we continued to believe in the system and play 40 minutes of RedHawk basketball, I like our chances in conference" he added.
Junior John Mosser had a big night posting a double double by scoring 15 points while pulling down 16 rebounds. Sophomore guard Rashad Richardson added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Darrius Davis connected for 20 points while hitting on 5-of-10 from behind the arc. Senior guard JJ Pennington chipped in 14 points while freshman standout Jovan Jackson added 10 points.
The RedHawks are seeded fifth in the A.I.I. Conference tournament and will play host College of the Ozarks on Friday, Feb. 24th at 5pm in the first round.
