National-recognized program add six players to 2017-18 roster

 

Gary, Ind. – Indiana Northwest Women's Basketball Head Coach Ryan Shelton has announced the RedHawks' 2017 recruiting class. 


The class of six will look to offset the loss of graduations seniors Nicki Monahan, Bernadette Grabowski and Nariman Jaber who helped lead IU Northwest to a school record 25 wins and appearance in the 2017 NAIA National Tournament. "We are excited to add this group of talented players who are also high-academic achieving students and high-character people to our tradition and success in women's basketball," added Shelton.

 

KALI WINKLER, 5'9" Guard -  River Forest

The standout from River Forest (Hobart, Ind.) Winkler lead the 2017 RedHawks class after filling up the box score in leading the Ingots to a school record xx wins. Winkler averaged 17.0 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 4.1 apg, 3.7 spg. en route to Greater South Shore All-Conference and Northwest Indiana Times All-Area honors. Winkler's size, athleticism and versatility positions her well to compete for a significant role in year one with the RedHawks.

 

SHANNON MCCOY, 5'11" Guard - Chesterton

A long-left handed scorer with deep range will help soften the loss of three-time All-American Nicki Monahan who graduated this spring. McCoy led Chesterton in scoring at 13.3 points and 4.3 rebounds while connecting .333 from long distance for the Trojans. McCoy was named to both the All-Duneland Conference and Northwest Indiana Times All-Area Teams. McCoy sports a 3.53 GPA

 

JUSTICE BURDIN, 5'11 Forward - Lincoln Trail College

Burdin a transfer from Lincoln Trail College by way of Charlestown High School. Burdin brings a physical presence to the RedHawks frontcourt after averaging 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds as a sophomore for the LTC Statesman. Burdin was a Top 100 selection as a prep averaging 13.2 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Charlestown Pirates.

 

JESSY SIEMS, 5'3" Guard - Hanover Central

Siems brings great speed and athleticism to the RedHawks backcourt. "She looks better and better everytime we have her on the court," said Shelton. Siems brings electric playmaking ability and joins older sister Carley on IU Northwest roster after leading Hanover Central in scoring at 8.5 ppg and 2.2 spg while carrying a 3.60 GPA.

 

ALAINA RICHTER, 5'9" Guard - Hobart

The RedHawks add another deep threat in Richter who does most of her damage from beyond the arc. As a senior for the Brickies Richter connected on .300 percent of her attempts from long range and averaged 5.2 ppg. Richter sports a 4.05 GPA.

 

JESSYCA NAPIER, 5'9" Guard - Whiteland

The RedHawks add another sharpshooter with length in Napier as the senior from Class 4A Whiteland connected on .410 percent (52-138) of her three-point field goal attempts while averaging 6.8 for the Warriors. Napier carries a 4.12 GPA.
