Dr. Charles Gary

Dr. Charles F. Gary Jr. has been the Director of Student Life and Athletics at Indiana University Northwest since August 2008. Since then, he has encouraged the campus to embrace the Redhawk spirit by introducing Redhawk apparel and spearheading a highly successful Homecoming Event. He  was especially proud of the drastic turnaround for 3 out of 4 programs, lead by two highly successful basketball campaigns. He was pleased to assist Chancellor Bergland and the development office's efforts in fundraising for athletics. Together they procured a brand new 14 passenger bus donated by Christensen Chevrolet. His emphasis on academics has been felt by the student athletes as well. He created an athletic academic support unit to monitor and assist students with their courses, as well as recognized and awarded student for their achievements in the classroom. Galvanizing the talents of his staff, the Redhawks issued their first ever all sports program/media guide.

For 2009/2010, Dr. Gary is excited for the upcoming upgrades to the athletic program with the introduction of new strength and conditioning staff and a brand new RedHawks website. Dr. Gary developed a passion for athletics as a wrestler at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he earned two bachelor degrees and captained his team to a Top 10 finish at the NCAA championship in 1995. He continued his athletic career working as an Academic Counselor for the University of Illinois Football Team. At Purdue University West Lafayette, Dr. Gary completed his graduate work while volunteering as assistant Wrestling Coach and working in athletics academic support. Dr. Gary grew up just across the Illinois border where he won an I.H.S.A. State wrestling championship (1990) for Thornwood H.S. (South Holland, IL).  He still resides in West Lafayette, IN with his wife, JoAnn, and two sons, Andrew (11) and Cameron (7).
